Is this what I am assosciated with?

A few nights ago I was watching Whose Line?, and apparently the channel that it is on turns into the Christian late night talk show channel. I might have fallen asleep during the transition... Anyways, I think the dude is Pat Robertson, or something along those lines. He was taking viewer questions and a lady (professing believer) said that she had an affair with her husbands brother or friend or someone that he knew, and that she felt really bad - could God forgive her? I don't remember exactly but it seems to me that her husband was a professing believer as well. The host of the show said of course God can forgive her, as far as the east is from the west, etc. But he also said not to confess to her husband, because that would just lead to worse things "he would just want to kill his friend, wouldnt trust you anymore, etc, etc." He went on to say that this type of thing in general is better left unsaid to people, just confessed to God.

While I think that there are many instances in which sin confession can be generic or isn't edifying to everyone, this situation struck me as being way off mark. Why couldn't the couple use this instance to grow stronger together in Christ, practicing confession, repentance, and forgiveness? I'm not saying it would be easy. The dude in this instance, if he is a believer has the responsibility to continue to love his wife and forgive her.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Those situations are never easy, and though I can't say that I've ever been in quite that situation, my immense sense of guilt would eventually cause me to tell the truth, lest I go mad. I also believe its the right thing to do, though not easy by any stretch of the imagination. Secondly, Pat Robertson is not somebody I would attach a large amount of credibility to, at the risk of offense. Even my mom, who is much more of a conservative person than I am, doesn't agree with a lot of his statements. Sadly, that is what we are associated with when we are known as christians, even more perhaps that just being good people - we are people like Pat. This is one of the reasons I try to redefine the social elements of christianity to people I know without playing into stereotypes and statements made by christian figureheads with political sway. I also really don't like Dobson, but my family does, so sorry if I'm a jerk. I'd go off more on that, but I should probably save that for later. Peace.

Along with what John said, I hate the fact that we, as Christians, are associated with radical religious figures such as Robertson. It seems that while he is not supporting the action of infidelity, he is supporting the "world's way" of solving the issue. Just sweep it under the rug and everything will be okay. This is not God's way of pursuing healing in a situation like this. Repentence is to God first and foremost, but it doesn't stop there. Sad that some are being led astray by these wacky philosophies.

That would be bad council. John is right the guilt would drive you farther from God and you would never have peace.

As far as association with others in the name of Christ. You and I don't think that every Muslim is a terrorist or every southerner is a bigot. We and every wise person looks at not just words or labels but words and actions. One of the reasons we are to build each other up in truth. So we can recognize the lambs along with the wolves.

All the more reason to see faith lived out vs. hear about it.

If You have strayed before things occure 1st loss of respect for yourself and love for your mate. 2nd no matter how hard they try as a human they can't forget. The hurt goes deep when trust is lost Use science to work this one out For every action their needes to be an equal and opposite reaction

I think the world would be a better place if we all listened to "Three midgets and a glass of milk".
